Delta Wins the First Climate Champion Award from the British Chamber of Commerce in Taipei

Taipei, Sept. 30, 2021 - Delta’s long-term commitment to sustainable development and its efforts and achievements in response to climate change have been recognized once again. At the annual Better Business Awards hosted by the British Chamber of Commerce in Taipei (BCCT), Delta won the Climate Champion Award, which was launched by the BCCT for the first time.  A jury formed by climate change professionals from Taiwan and the U.K. convened by the British Office Taipei has recognized that Delta’s business operations are closely integrated with the concept of environmental sustainability, and that Delta is committed to mitigating climate change. In particular, the company’s board of directors actively engages in sustainability strategies while its ESG Committee led by the management team implements such strategies in the company's core business and daily operations, making climate action an indispensable part of its business model. As a pioneer in many relevant fields, Delta is not only the first company in Taiwan that has passed the review by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) but also the first in Taiwan committed to EV100 to undertake a comprehensive program to convert the company's vehicles to electric.

Mr. Yancey Hai, chairman of Delta Electronics, Inc., said, “Since the establishment of Delta, we have adhered to our corporate mission of ‘To provide innovative, clean and energy-efficient solutions for a better tomorrow’ by developing high-efficiency power management products and a variety of energy-saving solutions for customers around the world, while contributing to environmental sustainability through continuous innovation. We joined the We Mean Business initiative in 2015 to keep up with the international trend of sustainability, and then we passed the SBTi review in 2017. Meanwhile, we adopted three major strategies to implement voluntary energy-saving and carbon reduction measures, including generating solar power for self-use, and purchasing green electricity certificates or international renewable energy certificates. As such, our carbon intensity decreased by more than 55% in 2020, and we have surpassed our annual SBT every year for three consecutive years, which is well-aligned with the net zero trend. This year we also joined RE100 with a commitment to achieving 100% renewable electricity in all our operating locations around the world by 2030. The Delta Electronics Foundation has also participated in the UN Climate Change Conference (COP) every year since 2007, to share our latest information on climate change and our approaches to climate mitigation and adaptation with the world. These efforts and achievements are in alignment with the philosophy of the Climate Champion Award. We thank the judges for recognizing Delta's long-term efforts to respond to climate change, and we hope that more companies will work together to facilitate environmental sustainability.”

Delta has long paid attention to climate change and actively participated in international initiatives. In 2017, we passed the SBTi review, and set a target to reduce carbon intensity by 56.6% by 2025 with 2014 as the base year. In 2018, Delta supported the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) as the first company to do so from the global technology manufacturing industry. The same year, we became a member of the EV100 initiative. The experiences gained from the implementation of measures to achieve the SBT have emboldened Delta to take on new challenges, such as the RE100 initiative. We announced our decision to join RE100 this March with a commitment to achieving the goal of 100% renewable electricity and carbon neutrality by 2030 as its first company from Taiwan's high-tech manufacturing industry. Delta also signed a long-term green power purchase agreement (PPA) in August with TCC Green Energy Corporation, which has the largest renewable energy transfer capacity in Taiwan. Delta purchased an installed capacity of 7.2MW of wind power from TCC, which will distribute approximately 19 million kWh of green power to Delta every year as a specific action to achieve our RE100 goal.

BCCT launched the annual Better Business Awards in 2017 to commend Taiwanese companies and individuals for their outstanding performance in responsible business in different sectors. The awards are aimed at shaping a positive social responsibility culture and motivating businesses to fulfill corporate responsibility and to achieve sustainable development. It has become a grand annual event in business circles with hundreds of enterprises submitting applications for the awards every year. In view of the increasing importance of climate change, the Climate Champion Award was launched for the first time this year to demonstrate the winning enterprise’s outstanding contribution to reducing carbon emissions and their positive influence on the environment and society. Delta is honored to have won the first Climate Champion Award with our long dedication to energy conservation and carbon reduction and commitment to responding to climate change.
