Cultivating a Green Oasis in the Concrete Jungle: Delta Electronics Singapore Office’s Vertical Farming and Social Impact

At Delta Electronics, sustainability is more than a buzzword—it’s a daily practice. At the Kallang Junction office in Singapore, Delta has long embraced an innovative addition: a fully operational, proof-of-concept vertical farm. Unlike typical corporate spaces, this thriving ecosystem blends cutting-edge technology with a strong commitment to the environment and community.

Fresh, Local, and Organic: A Farm in the Office

Delta’s vertical farming technology takes center stage at the Level Three office space, where a variety of local, organic vegetables—including leafy greens and herbs—are grown. Designed for efficiency, the system minimizes water and space usage while delivering high-quality, fresh produce. The farm utilizes a proprietary nutrient-rich recipe, ensuring the vegetables remain fresh for up to two weeks in refrigeration, significantly longer than typical organic produce. Additionally, the circulating water planting solution reduces water consumption by at least 30% compared to traditional farming, reinforcing Delta’s commitment to sustainable agricultural practices. With harvests of up to 60kg every 35 days, the farm ensures a consistent supply of high-quality organic produce for employees.

Affordable Vegetables with a Social Impact

The best part? The vegetables grown in this vertical farm are sold at an incredibly affordable price—just $1 per pack for all employees. This makes healthy, organic food accessible to Delta staff. What truly sets this initiative apart, however, is how Delta gives back: all profits from the sale of the vegetables are donated to the company’s charity of choice. By doing this, Delta ensures that its green efforts extend beyond the office and into the community, supporting a range of important social causes.

A Sustainable Office Ecosystem

Healthy, sustainable, and fresh! Employees can bring home a large bag of organic veggies from the vertical farm every month.

Delta’s vertical farming project goes beyond food production. It’s an embodiment of the company’s broader philosophy of sustainability. The farm is an integral part of the office ecosystem, providing employees with a tangible connection to the company’s environmental efforts. A VTScada system is integrated into the vertical farming concept, enabling remote monitoring and control. The system logs data, which is then analyzed to optimize farming conditions. Additionally, it is equipped with a power meter to track power and water consumption, ensuring efficient resource management. It’s a humble yet meaningful way of demonstrating how technology can be used to create a more sustainable and responsible future.

Harvesting Tomorrow’s Potential

Delta’s vertical farm showcases how businesses can integrate sustainability into daily operations. Beyond providing fresh vegetables, it fosters innovation and community engagement. Although small, each harvest reinforces a sustainable culture, proving that even modest efforts can make an environmental impact. As the initiative grows, Delta continues to demonstrate the lasting benefits of green practices.
